NextGen Development Corp. Palo Alto, CA 1998 - Present

Funded, developed, and brought to market several innovative web-based database solutions (SuperCalendar, KidsCal, 1Calendar) for both the B‑C and B-B spaces.

Product Development

·         Developed SuperCalendar (www.SuperCalendar.com) and KidsCal (www.KidsCal.com), the first graphical web calendars, from concept to live sites with thousands of users.

·         Implemented interfaces in both HTML and WAP.

·         Created 1calendar (www.1calendar.net), B-B software infrastructure that facilitates instant downloading of event and contact information into web and PC-based calendars and contact managers.

Business Management and Development

·         Structured Intellectual Property protection with patents and trademarks pending.

·         Submitted and promoted products resulting in coveted invitation to launch SuperCalendar at David Coursey's elite new product conference, Showcase '99.

·         Created visibility and promoted product to Upside Magazine resulting in feature article (July, 1999). Other coverage included PC Magazine, PC World, L.A. Times, Internet Today, and The Industry Standard.

·         Generated 50,000 registered users in first two years without advertising.

Invented and brought to market HangUps!, an innovative line of office products designed to mount on vertical surfaces such as computer monitors.

Research and Product Development

·         Conceived idea, built and tested prototype products, designs, materials, and adhesives.

·         Retained and managed relationship with high-tech design firm to create products and packaging optimized for this special use.

·         Outsourced and oversaw manufacturing, including QA, for injection molding and packaging in Asia.

·         Located and retained industry expert to run focus group on prototypes and advise on pricing, potential commercial customers, and related issues.

Remarkable Moments San Clemente, CA and Chicago, IL 1993 - 1997

Created and funded company to manufacture and market new type of sports, historical, and entertainment collectibles incorporating audio microelectronics, and successfully sold company.

Research and Product Development

·         Created concept, researched chip and other technologies, developed prototypes and successfully prosecuted related patent.

·         Hired and interfaced with electronics and mechanical design firms to produce working prototypes and managed outsourcing of production and assembly in Asia.

·         Directed design of new methods and equipment for mass programming of analog voice chips used in products.

·         Oversaw design and development of electronics, plastics molding, graphic design, printing, recording, and final assembly.

Business Management and Development

·         Recruited Olympic Gold Medal decathlete, Bruce Jenner, and baseball star, Steve Garvey, as spokesmen.

·         Attracted corporate venture capital from Successories, Inc. (Nasdaq:SCES).

Founder and CEO (and Director, Ziff Communications 1992)

TECHS International Anaheim, CA 1988 - 1992

Conceived, funded, and built - from startup through negotiation of seven-figure sale to Ziff Communications (parent of Ziff-Davis) the world's largest publisher of computer-related media - the Technical Encyclopedia of Computer Hardware and Software (TECHS), the first multi-vendor tech support database covering the PC and Local Area Network industries. Managed post-sale transition.

Product Development

·         Created requirements list for product features and functionality as well as designed and programmed second-generation search engine.

·         TECHS became the de facto standard for multi-vendor system support, worldwide. Customers included: Government - Australia, Canada, European Community, U.S. Army, Navy, U.S. Departments of Energy, H.U.D., Social Security, Transportation; Industry - Alcoa, Boeing, Conoco, GTW, Hughes, Lockheed, MCI, Northrup, Proctor & Gamble, Texaco, Westinghouse; Financial - American Express, Arthur Andersen, Bank of Mexico, Deloitte-Touche, Dun & Bradstreet, Goldman Sachs, International Monetary Fund, Merrill Lynch, Peat Marwick; Computers - Computer Science Corp., DEC, Dell, EDS, General Electric, Hewlett‑Packard, Oracle, TRW, Unisys, Xerox, and licensing partners.

Marketing and Public Relations

·         TECHS' launch hailed as "News of The Week" in PC Week (now eWeek) and named "Product of the Year" by LAN Magazine. In addition, TECHS was covered by virtually every industry publication, including Computer Digest, LAN Technology, LAN Times, Novell's Selling Red, PC Magazine, and Service News.

·         Acted as sole PR source for the company. Gained visibility presenting, as an industry expert, on numerous panels at Networld (also member of their Advisory Board), COMDEX, PC Expo, and PC Tech Journal's inaugural System Forum.

·         Created innovative direct marketing campaign to quickly reach PC, networking, peripheral, and software manufacturers resulting in dozens of licenses in less than a year, without media advertising.

Business Management and Development

·        Devised subscription-based sales model to make TECHS more attractive to customers while ensuring a future revenue stream for company.

·        Developed licensing program and negotiated royalty-free exclusive and non‑exclusive content licenses with dozens of major hardware and software companies including 3Com, Acer, AST Research, Banyan, Borland, Broadband Networks, Cabletron, Compaq, Gateway, Hayes, Hitachi, IBM, Intel, Iomega, Lotus, Mitsubishi, National Semiconductor, Novell, Okidata, Panasonic, Proteon, Sanyo‑Icon, Samsung, Seagate, Standard Microsystems Corp., Synoptics, Tandon, Toshiba, Ungermann‑Bass, Western Digital, WordPerfect, and Wyse.

·        Recruited, hired, and managed sales, programming, and administrative staff, as well as recruited veteran IBM executive as President/COO.

·       Developed and implemented Intellectual Property strategy, which prevented other companies from fielding competitive products. The success of this strategy resulted in a very favorable acquisition of TECHS.
